Five Horses Sold at Keeneland Entered in Preakness

Keeneland sales graduates have won five consecutive runnings of the classic 
Horses who are graduates of Keeneland sales will bid to secure a sixth consecutive victory in the Preakness (G1) – following Exaggerator (2016), Cloud Computing(2017), undefeated Triple Crown winner Justify (2018), War of Will (2019) and the filly Swiss Skydiver(2020) – when the 146th running of the $1 million race takes place Saturday at Pimlico.

Keeneland sales have produced 26 Preakness winners, including 11 of the past 14. Other winning Keeneland sales graduates during that span are Curlin (2007), Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown (2008), Lookin At Lucky (2010), Shackleford (2011), Kentucky Derby winner I’ll Have Another (2012) andOxbow (2013). 

Five 3-year-olds who are alumni of Keeneland sales are among the 10 horses entered today in this year’s Preakness at 1 3/16 miles:

Crowded Trade (More Than Ready-Maude S) – One of two entrants for owner Klaravich Stables and trainer Chad Brown, Crowded Trade was second in the Gotham (G3) and third in the Wood Memorial (G2) Presented by Resorts World Casino. The colt, who was bred by Forging Oaks, was consigned by Eaton Sales, agent, as a weanling to the 2018 November Breeding Stock Sale and sold to de Meric Stables, agent, for $185,000. Javier Castellano will ride Crowded Trade.

France Go de Ina (Will Take Charge-Dreamy Blues) – Trainer Hideyuki Mori paid $100,000 for the Japan-based runner at the 2019 September Yearling Sale from the consignment of Betz Thoroughbreds, agent. Bred by Betz, Kidder, B & K Canetti and Jim Betz, France Go de Ina is owned by Yuji Inaida. He will be ridden by Joel Rosario.

Midnight Bourbon (Tiznow-Catch the Moon) – Owner Winchell Thoroughbreds purchased Midnight Bourbon for $525,000 at the 2019 September Sale from the consignment of Warrendale Sales, agent for Stonestreet Bred & Raised. Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings bred the colt, who won the Lecomte (G3), was second in the Twinspires.com Louisiana Derby (G2) and Iroquois (G3) Presented by Ford and finished third in the Champagne (G1) and Risen Star (G2) Presented by Lamarque Ford. Irad Ortiz Jr. will ride Midnight Bourbon for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Ram (American Pharoah-Miner’s Secret) – Michael Edward Connelly bred Ram, who was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, to the 2019 September Sale and sold for $375,000 to Robert C. Baker and William Mack. D. Wayne Lukas trains the colt for owners Christina Baker and Mack. He will be ridden by Ricardo Santana Jr.

Risk Taking (Medaglia d’Oro-Run a Risk) – The second entrant for Klaravich and Brown is the Withers (G3) winner, who was bred by G. Watts Humphrey Jr.  Lane’s End, agent, consigned Risk Taking to the 2019 September Sale, where he sold to Mike Ryan, agent, for $240,000. He will be ridden by Jose Ortiz.
