Keeneland Sales Alumni Lead Fields for Weekend Kentucky Derby Preps

Keeneland sales alumni are the leading contenders in the weekend’s three prep races on the Road to the Kentucky Derby (G1).

Keeneland sales are represented by nine of the 12 sophomores entered in the Lambholm South Tampa Bay Derby (G2), led by Sam F. Davis (G2) winner Candy Man Rocket, stakes winners Super Strong and Sittin On Go and talented maiden winner Promise Keeper.

Undefeated Life is Good, winner of the Sham (G3), headlines the San Felipe (G2). 

Seven of the eight contenders in the Gotham (G3) at Aqueduct were sold at Keeneland, including Freedom Fighter, second in the San Vicente (G2); Capo Kane, third in the Withers (G3), and Nyquist Stakes winnerHighly Motivated.  

Keeneland sales alumni also are showcased in the two Grade 1 stakes for older horses at Santa Anita on Saturday. Highlighting the field for the Frank E. Kilroe Mile (G1) are Hit the Road, who opened his 4-year-old campaign with a win in the Thunder Road (G3), and Ride a Comet and Casa Creed, first and second, respectively, in the recent Tropical Turf (G3). Graded stakes winner Independence Hall, third in the Pegasus World Cup (G1), and San Pasqual (G2) winner Express Train are among the top contenders in the Santa Anita Handicap (G1).
