Keeneland Sales Graduates Knicks Go, Colonel Liam, Regal Glory Favored in Pegasus World Cup Races

Fifty-six Keeneland sales graduates are entered in graded stakes at Gulfstream, Oaklawn, Aqueduct, Santa Anita and Sam Houston this weekend, headlined by Knicks Go, Colonel Liam and Regal Glory, favorites for the three Pegasus World Cup races on Saturday.

Knicks Go, recently named World’s Best Racehorse by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities and expected to receive the Eclipse Award as the 2021 Horse of the Year, defends his title in the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) Presented by 1/ST Bet, the final race of his career. Knicks Go won the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at Del Mar in his last start.  

Second-choice in the Pegasus World Cup is Life Is Good, winner of the 2021 Big Ass Fans Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) at Del Mar. Belmont (G1) winner Sir Winston, who closed 2021 with a win in the Valedictory (G3) at Woodbine, also highlights the field.  

Multiple Grade 1 winner and millionaire Colonel Liam seeks a repeat win in the $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1) Presented by Baccarat. Other prominent contenders include 2021 Frank E. Kilroe Mile (G1) winner Hit the Road, multiple Grade 2 winner Cross Border and recent Tropical Park Derby (L) winner Never Surprised. 

Matriarch (G1) winner Regal Glory is the morning-line favorite for the inaugural running of the $500,000 TAA Pegasus World Cup Filly & Mare Turf Invitational (G3) Presented by Pepsi. Among her challengers is multiple graded stakes winner Sweet Melania, who took the Suwannee River (G3) over the turf at Gulfstream on Dec. 18. 

Undefeated Newgrange, an easy winner of the Sham (G3) at Santa Anita on New Year’s Day, looks to keep his unbeaten record alive in the Southwest (G3) at Oaklawn, a prep on the 2022 Road to the Kentucky Derby (G1).
