Keeneland September Sale Alumni War of Will, Needs Supervision Earn Points toward Spring Classics

January 22, 2019

War of Will and Needs Supervision, both alumni of Keeneland’s 2017 September Yearling Sale, won classic preps at Fair Grounds on Saturday to establish themselves among the point leaders on the roads to the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Kentucky Oaks (G1), respectively.

War of Will earned 10 points on the Road to the Derby for his dominating 4-length win in the Lecomte (G3). For the victory, Keeneland will pay a $5,000 September Sale Seller Bonus to Flaxman Holdings Limited, the colt’s owner at the time of sale.

The September Sale Seller Bonus Program, initiated by Keeneland in 2017, offers cash rewards to sellers (owners at the time of sale) of horses sold at the September Sale that win Grade/Group 1, 2 or 3 stakes as a 2- or 3-year-old. Sellers receive cash rewards for yearlings sold at the September Sale based on the following criteria: $10,000 Seller Bonus value for your first Grade/Group 1 stakes win; $7,500 for your first Grade/Group 2 win; and $5,000 for your first Grade/Group 3 victory. Keeneland awarded $112,500 through the September Sale Bonus Program in 2018.

Needs Supervision won her stakes debut and third consecutive race when she took the Silverbulletday, a prep on the Road to the Oaks.

Keeneland sales graduate Roy H, favored to win his second Eclipse Award as champion male sprinter later this week, easily defended his title in the Palos Verdes (G2) at Santa Anita on Saturday.
