Keeneland September Sale Graduates Win Kentucky Derby/Kentucky Oaks For Second Consecutive Year

For the second year, graduates of Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale won the $2 million Kentucky Derby (G1) and $1 million Kentucky Oaks (G1) at Churchill Downs.

On Saturday, September Sale graduates Justify, the undefeated Derby favorite who won the Santa Anita Derby (G1), and champion Good Magic, winner of Keeneland’s Toyota Blue Grass (G2), finished 1-2 in the Run for the Roses. The day before, September Sale alumni Monomoy GirlWonder Gadot and Midnight Bisou swept the top three spots in the Oaks. Favorite Monomoy Girl won the $500,000 Central Bank Ashland (G1) at Keeneland last month.

Last year, September Sale graduates Always Dreaming and Abel Tasman won the Derby and Oaks, respectively.

Keeneland sales alumni accounted for five other graded stakes wins at Churchill on Oaks and Derby Days: Backyard Heaven in the Alysheba Presented by Sentient Jet (G2); Maraud in the American Turf Presented by Ram Trucks (G2); Mia Mischief in the Eight Belles Presented by Kentucky Trailer (G2); Funny Duck in the Pat Day Mile Presented by LG&E and KU (G3); and Toinette in the Edgewood Presented by Forcht Bank (G3).
