Keeneland Sales Graduates, Led by Grade 1 Winners McKinzie and Covfefe, Capture Nine Major Weekend Stakes

A Thread of Blue and Concrete Rose win Saratoga Derby, Oaks

Keeneland sales graduates, headlined by Whitney (G1) winner McKinzie and Test (G1) winner Covfefe, accounted for nine major stakes at Saratoga, Del Mar and Mountaineer this weekend.

With his Whitney victory, McKinzie secured a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) on Nov. 2 at Santa Anita.

For her win in the Test, Covfefe earns a $5,000 September Sale Seller Bonus for Alexander Groves Thoroughbreds, her owner at the time of sale. (Covfefe won a $5,000 Seller Bonus for her track record-setting victory in the Adena Springs Miss Preakness (G3) toward the maximum $10,000 Seller Bonus.)

Amalfi Sunrise and Casa Creed each secured a $7,500 September Sale Seller Bonus for their weekend Grade 2 wins. Amalfi Sunrise won the Sorrento (G2) to earn a Seller Bonus for Jack Mandato. Keeneland will pay a Seller Bonus to Amolio Ruiz for Casa Creed’s victory in the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame (G2). 

Other graded stakes-winning Keeneland sales graduates were Beau Recall (IRE) (Yellow Ribbon-G2); Mr. Money (West Virginia Derby-G3) and Silver Dust (West Virginia Governor’s-G3).

A Thread of Blue captured the $1 million Saratoga Derby Invitational. Concrete Rose, winner of the Belmont Oaks Invitational, took the Saratoga Oaks Invitational to sweep the first two legs of the inaugural Turf Tiara.
