September Sale Graduates Earn Seller Bonuses for Graded Stakes Wins

Keeneland September Yearling Sale graduates, led by gate-to-wire winner Serengeti Empress, captured the top five spots in the $1.25 million Kentucky Oaks (G1) at Churchill Downs.

Finishing second through fifth were Liora, Lady Apple, Champagne Anyone and Bellafina.

Serengeti Empress becomes the third consecutive Keeneland sales graduate and 13th since 1994 to win the Kentucky Oaks. Abel Tasman won the filly classic in 2017 and Monomoy Girl won last year, both earning Eclipse Awards as champion 3-year-old filly. Others include Racing Hall of Famer Ashado and Belmont (G1) winner and champion Rags to Riches.

Keeneland sales graduates won nine graded stakes at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Oaks and Derby Days. In addition to the aforementioned Serengeti Empress, other Keeneland-sold graded stakes winners were Bricks and Mortar (Old Forester Turf Classic-G1), Mia Mischief (Humana Distaff-G1), Mitole (Churchill Downs Presented by TwinSpires.com-G1), She’s a Julie (La Troienne Presented by Inside Access from Chase-G1), Beau Recall (IRE) (Churchill Downs Distaff Turf Mile-G2), McKinzie (Alysheba Presented by Sentient Jet-G2), Mr. Money (Pat Day Mile Presented by LG&E and KU-G3) and Concrete Rose (Edgewood Presented by Forcht Bank-G3).

Serengeti Empress, Mr. Money and Maxim Rate secured September Sale Seller Bonuses for their graded stakes wins over the Oaks/Derby weekend.

Serengeti Empress’ Oaks win earned a $2,500 Seller Bonus for Brookdale and J. R. Ward Stables, the filly’s owners at the time she was consigned to the 2017 September Yearling Sale. Serengeti Empress secured a $7,500 Seller Bonus last fall when she won the Pocahontas (G2).

Mr. Money’s win in the Pat Day Mile earned a $5,000 Seller Bonus for WEF. Maxim Rate’s victory in the Senorita (G3) secured a $5,000 Seller Bonus for Ben McElroy, et al.

The Keeneland September Sale Seller Bonus Program, initiated by Keeneland in 2017, offers cash rewards to sellers (owners at the time of sale) of horses sold at the September Sale that win Grade/Group 1, 2 or 3 stakes as a 2- or 3-year-old. Sellers receive cash rewards based on the following criteria: $10,000 Seller Bonus for your first Grade/Group 1 stakes win; $7,500 for your first Grade/Group 2 win; and $5,000 for your first Grade/Group 3 victory.
