Keeneland’s 2016 Fall Meet, which runs through Oct. 29, marks the track’s 80th anniversary. To celebrate this milestone, Barn Notes throughout the Fall Meet will look back at memorable races and track highlights from Keeneland’s rich history.

Here are a few highlights from Oct. 12:

1991: Jhayare Stables’ Itsallgreektome cruised to a 2¼-length victory in the Keeneland Breeders’ Cup (G3) (now the Grade 1, $1 million Shadwell Turf Mile) over Opening Verse, who would go on to win the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) at Churchill Downs. Itsallgreektome, who won the Elkhorn (G2) at Keeneland that spring, will finish second in the Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) following his Shadwell triumph.

1995: Frank Mansell’s Lindon Lime wins the inaugural Sycamore in the final race of his career. Craig Perret rides the winner for trainer Elliott Walden. Now a Grade 3 race worth $100,000, the Sycamore will be run Oct. 20.

2013: Keeneland sets a record attendance for a Saturday during the Fall Meet when 32,717 fans are at the track for the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Presented by Lane’s End (G1). That night, the University of Kentucky will host a football game against defending national champion University of Alabama.
