40+ Keeneland Sales Alumni Featured in Derby Weekend Graded Stakes

 More than 40 graduates of Keeneland sales are entered in graded stakes at Churchill Downs, Belmont and Santa Anita over Kentucky Derby Weekend.

Eight Keeneland sales alumni – led by Rock Your World, Hot Rod Charlie and Highly Motivated – are competing in Saturday’s $3 million Kentucky Derby (G1) Presented by Woodford Reserve at Churchill Downs.

Keeneland sales have produced 23 Kentucky Derby winners, including four of the past five: champion Nyquist (2016), Always Dreaming (2017), undefeated Triple Crown winner Justify (2018) and Authentic (2020). Justify and Authentic both were named Horse of the Year.

Keeneland sales graduates also headline undercard stakes on Derby Day at Churchill:

·       Colonel Liam, winner of the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1) and Muniz Memorial Classic (G2), is an early favorite for the Old Forester Bourbon Turf Classic (G1); 

·       Champion Gamine, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) at Keeneland and recent Las Flores (G3), heads the field for the Derby City Distaff (G1) Presented by Kendall-Jackson Winery;

·       Multimillionaire and Grade 1 winner Got Stormy tops the Churchill Distaff Turf Mile (G2); and 

·       Two-time Grade 1 winner Jackie’s Warrior highlights the Pat Day Mile (G2) Presented by LG&E and KU.
