Aqueduct Hotlist - January 9

January 7, 2021

Today’s New York Hot List races to watch – Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Aqueduct
By Matt Shifman and Bob Ehalt

Hot List Key:
 A:
A preferred horse to watch                                       B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worst
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

5th race – (2) Violent Point (C) ran for the first time in a N2L claimer and was a winner while getting bet down to be the favorite from 7-2 to 9-5. Now she returns to NY-bred competition in this first-level allowance in her second start since moving to the barn of Chris Englehart. (1) New York Rock Star will make her first start against state-breds after having raced at Parx with a recent win in a starter allowance and a third in a straight allowance. Parx shippers tend to do well at Aqueduct as they are used to racing on that deep track. (7) Steal My Heart was third in her first start since moving to the barn of Greg Matties. (4) Quietude will move back to NY-bred company after racing in a starter allowance in her first start since February.

7th race – (6) Dubai Bobby (B) was pinched back at the start of his last race which made it tough for a horse that prefers to be part of the early pace. (2) Beaver Creek gets blinkers on after making a big late run in his first start for Linda Rice in a starter allowance similar to this spot. (8) Sneakiness will move up after winning a N2L claimer in his most recent race for Rice. (10) Jake Rocks has a pair of place finishes since David Donk gave him a short rest with the last race against other horses in this field. There is concern that he may be a bit camera shy.

8th race – (3) My Roxy Girl (B) stumbled at the start of her last race, rushed up to set the pace, and faded to finish third. Now she gets a favorable cut back in distance. (8) Miss Jimmy has finished first or second in 15 of 17 career starts including a pair of place finishes in second-level NY-bred allowances like this spot. (6) Doll moves back to racing on the dirt where last year she had excellent results at Aqueduct using her early speed. (2) Awesome Debate came back from a March layoff to set the pace and eventually finish third just a length behind the winner. Training Charlie Baker has excellent stats with runners in their second start after a break.

9th race – (1A) Magnetron (B) missed a win by a neck in his first start in the barn of Rob Atras at this N3L condition for a $14,000 tag. (7) Mandatory Payout (C) finished third behind the top choice after getting bet down from 10-1 to 6-1. (4) Vitesse was a winner of his N2L condition in his second start after a four-month layoff for Michelle Nevin. It is hard to win the next step up, but this is not a strong field for a N3L claimer. (9) Economic Policy was claimed away from Chad Brown after having won his prior two starts in a maiden claimer and a N2L condition.

Best bets: Violent Point (5th); My Roxy Girl (8th). Best value:  Dubai Bobby (7th); Magnetron (9th).
