Aqueduct Hotlist - March 13

March 11, 2021

Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Aqueduct
By Matt Shifman and Bob Ehalt

Hot List Key:
 A:
A preferred horse to watch                                       B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worst
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

1st race [NY, MSW, 7F] – (4) One Whirlwind Ride (B) was the favorite in his last start at this level when he ran fourth. He was six-wide turning for home after clearly disliking the muddy kickback at Aqueduct. (2) B C Glory Days caught muddy tracks in both career starts where he pressed the pace, took the lead, and then was passed nearing the wire. Last time he was odds-on when he lost by a neck. (5) A Colt Named Susie will make his debut for Orlando Noda. He is out of a mare that has produced some very successful horses including a NY-bred stakes winner of $530,000. (8) Saint Selby will debut for Rob Atras. He’ll have Lasix for this race as the most expensive purchase in the field at $75,000 as a yearling.

2nd race [Clm 16000 N2L, 6F] – (1) Miss Charisma (B) drops down to this $16,000 level after racing widest of all where he had to rally from last to finish second. (3) Jara was claimed from Linda Rice in her 2021 debut by Wayne Potts. In that race, she flashed some speed and finished behind a horse who came back to win her next start. Potts will cut her back in distance. Last year she was a competitive allowance horse. (7) Empress Luciana ran second at this level in her most recent start. (8) Charlotte Webley has early speed which should be useful against this field.

8th race [OC62/N2X, 6 ½ F] – (5) Twelfth Labour (C) was bet down to be the favorite last time when he was an easy winner of a N3L claimer going a mile. Now he’ll cut back in distance and face an allowance field. (4) High Velocity (D) was bet down from 6-1 to 3-1 last time and also cuts back to a sprint. He was on the Derby trail early in his career for Bob Baffert. (2) Big Engine was winner at this level at Belmont Park in the fall and since has a pair of seconds in NY-bred stakes. (8) Secret Rules has done his best racing at Aqueduct where he won both times and at this distance also. Last time, he had the lead and finished third behind a horse that came back to win next out.

10th race [NY Mdn 25000, 6F] – (8) Up for Adventure (D) was bet down from 9-1 to 6-1 for his career debut where he raced six-wide going a mile and finished fourth back in January. He returns for Ray Handal as a new gelding. (1) Forest Spirit got a career best speed figure last time in his first try at this level. (9) Litterbox ran second at this level when he cut back from a mile to six furlongs. (10) Interstate drops from a maiden special weight for state-breds to the lowest level available for them at the Big A.

Best bets: One Whirlwind Ride (1st); Miss Charisma (2nd). Best value:  Twelfth Labour (8th); Up for Adventure (10th).
