rd race [Md 40000, 6 ½F] – (1) Determined Fury ran well in his two starts last year as a 3-year-old for Christophe Clement and West Point Thoroughbreds and now makes his 2021 debut in the claiming ranks. (3) Sixteen Tons made his first start of the year on the turf for Linda Rice and made up a lot of ground, but Rice moves him back to the main track. (6) Uncle Moonlight had good speed figures in his 2020 starts and also will return from a layoff in this maiden claimer for Michelle Nevin. (2) Risk Profile experimented with the blinkers in his first start of the year for Chad Brown and they come back off in here.
th race [NY, Md 25000, 1 mi] – (3) Being Me gets a favorable rider change to Kendrick Carmouche after a much-improved third at the lowest-level maiden race. (4) Night Escort gets Jose Ortiz for his career debut for Linda Rice. Ortiz usually only rides for Rice when it is a winning spot. (1) Up for Adventure was a rare claim at this level and now gets Rosario in the saddle. He pressed the pace and finished fourth in that recent start. (7) Lorenzen has had lots of tries at this level and is unlikely to win but is a probable board hitter.
th race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 1 1/16 TURF] – (6) Acushia was well bet in her debut in December and was fourth after making up a ton of ground from last. The Jorge Abreu runner gets Lasix and Rosario in her first start of this year. (2) Spungie lost by a nose in her first start at Gulfstream Park back in January for Bill Mott. She was given some time after a poor second race on a turf course that was rated ‘good’. (8) Dixie Kitten has turf breeding and debuts for Abreu who has a striking 29% win percentage with firsters. (10) Constitutionalrage made a big improvement in her second start last time when she moved to the turf. She trained in Florida during the winter and waited for the big NY-bred purse money. [(12) Voice of Spring (A) and (11) Winds of Capri (A) are entered for Main Track Only.]
th race [NY, Alw 80000 N1X, 6F] – (7) Electric Youth (A) got steadied at the start of her second race and then rallied from last to win by more than two lengths. (4) Summer Brew broke her maiden in her second start of this year for the hot Abreu barn. (10) Bankers Daughter was pulled up in her last start in January following a series of very good efforts. (6) Rainbow Gal was an easy winner of a maiden claimer last time for the Noda barn which has been cold this year but this one now gets Rosario on board.
Best bets: Determined Fury (3rd); Acushia (6th). Best value: Being Me (4th); Electric Youth (7th).
