Belmont Park Hotlist - July 10

July 8, 2020

Today’s New York Hot List races to watch – Friday, July 10, 2020 at Belmont Park
By Matt Shifman and Bob Ehalt

Hot List Key:
 A:
A preferred horse to watch                           B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

5th race – (9) Princess Fawzia made her 2020 debut in a starter allowance and missed the win by a head after setting the pace. She returns in a similar spot here for Linda Rice. (6) Kitten by the Sea was claimed for $40,000 last time out of a winning effort in February at Gulfstream Park by Repole Stable and sent to Todd Pletcher. Her speed figure in that win is by far the best of any horse in this field. (3) Leeway was last seen breaking her maiden for a $50,000 tag at Belmont Park in October as a 2-year-old. (1) Sterling Beauty makes her 2020 debut for David Donk after competing in NY-bred races including a third in a stake at Saratoga.

6th race – (7) Vivazano (B) set the pace in his career debut and faded to third when he didn’t change leads down the stretch. (9) Voice of Spring made a late run in her debut to finish fourth for Linda Rice and as we have said before Rice rarely wins with firsters but does so at a 26% clip with her maidens second time out. (10) Jewel of Arabia made her 2020 debut for Christophe Clement last month and missed the win by a neck. As a 2-year-old, she made her debut in a NY-bred stakes race and finished third. (8) Bonus Baby debuted for trainer Jeremiah Englehart at Oaklawn Park against open company and now gets to face fellow state-breds.

9th race – (6) Long Weekend is the winner of consecutive sprint stakes at Oaklawn Park for trainer Tom Amoss and could be very hard to catch breaking from the outside. He beat the talented Echo Town in his last start in April. (2) Newstome is a stakes winner on both synthetic and dirt with a victory last out at Woodbine and a win at Laurel in the JF Lewis as a 2-year-old. He will get a good set-up for his stalking style. (3) Hopeful Treasure gets a pass from his last race when they tried the turf for the first time. In February, he had a fast allowance score at Aqueduct. (5) Wondrwherecraigis is perfect in two starts this year at Laurel with a maiden special weight and an allowance win. He will also be coming from behind.

10th race – (3) Tiny Magoo (A) made her debut for trainer Mike Miceli and was fifth in the early going racing along the inside in a $40,000 NY-bred maiden claimer, shifted to the three path, and finished second beaten by just a length while far ahead of the others. She returns from a February layoff in a similar spot. (12) Big Red Girl (B) clipped heels behind others and was forced to rally from eighth in her turf debut to finish third. (6) Running On Entry gets blinkers on and drops out of a NY-bred maiden special weight into this claimer in her 2020 debut. (8) Little Red Button got bumped at the start of her debut and finished fourth for a Monmouth Park based trainer who brings live horses to New York.

Best bets:  Vivazano (6th); Long Weekend (9th).  Best value: Princess Fawzia (5th); Tiny Magoo (10th).
