Belmont Park Hotlist - June 19

June 17, 2020

Today’s New York Hot List races to watch – Friday, June 19, 2020 at Belmont Park
By Matt Shifman and Bob Ehalt

Hot List Key:
 A:
A preferred horse to watch                           B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

2nd race – (2) All Others Follow was third in her debut at Tampa last month as a 6-5 favorite for Chad Brown. The second-place horse in that tight finish came back to win her next start by 11 lengths. (5) Tonal Verse makes her turf debut after three good dirt races for Graham Motion. It would be foolish to ignore any Motion turf runners right now as he has been winning at tracks all over the country. (4) Coilean Bawn makes her 2020 debut after running some very strong turf races last year. Rosario gets on board for Christophe Clement. (7) In Front flashed talent in her New York starts last fall for Shug McGaughey and now returns from a January layoff.

8th race – (9) The Caretaker (C) dropped out of a fourth in a NY-bred stakes race to run in a second-level OC allowance for state-breds and was bet down from 3-1 to be the 6-5 favorite. He rallied from behind going seven-wide in the stretch to miss the top spot by less than a length. He was claimed for $40,000 by trainer Tom Morley and returns in a similar spot. (6) Summer Bourbon returned from a February layoff in the first week of this meeting against open company and now Rudy Rodriguez drops him back into a NY-bred allowance race where he was a winner in the Feb. start. (4) Nueva York was a winner after almost a year off in a first-level allowance for state-breds at Aqueduct in March. He’ll get a favorable pace set-up for his closing move. (8) Kazmania gets blinkers on as he comes back from a Feb. layoff to this type of allowance where he found success in the past.

9th race – (5) Turned Aside (C) dropped out of a stakes race for Linda Rice into a first-level turf allowance and was bet down to be the favorite at 6-5 from 7-2. He stalked the early pace while confidently ridden and when asked to run easily got the lead and extended it to more than three-lengths. Now he steps up to a listed stakes race. (7) Chimney Rock was the winner of a Churchill Downs high level allowance against two others for this listed stake turf sprint. (2) Jack and Noah is a past stakes winner and was a head behind in that aforementioned allowance. (4) Guildsman has two third-place finishes since coming over from Europe after two slow starts. Good gate rider Luis Saez gets on board so expect him to be closer to the pace this time.

10th race – (10) Topaz Bride drops down from a dirt maiden special weight to a turf claimer and makes her 2020 debut for Mike Maker with a third in her first race on the grass at Belmont last year. (11) Roziere was second when last seen back in November when she dropped into a claimer for the first time that she raced on the turf for Danny Gargan. (12) Lucky Latkes makes her debut on the turf for Clement who has gaudy stats with this kind of first start. (4) Courted gets blinkers on after facing a tough group of open company maiden claimers on the grass at Gulfstream Park where the second and third finishers both won their next starts. Now she faces NY-breds again.

Best bets:  All Others Follow (2nd); Topaz Bride (10th).  Best value:  The Caretaker (8th); Turned Aside (9th).
