By Matt Shifman and Bob Ehalt

Hot List Key:
 A:
A preferred horse to watch                         B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

1st race [Clm 32000, 6F] – (7) Up Seventyfour (C) was part of the pace and finished second last time at this level when bet down from 9-1 to 6-1. She gets blinkers on for hot trainer Rob Atras. (3) Lucky Sitka won her debut last year for a $50,000 tag in October at Belmont Park and now makes her first start of the year with Lasix for trainer Terranova who is very good after long layoffs. (6) Overdressed was claimed out of a win for $20,000, tried a starter allowance on a muddy track, and then moved back to a $20,000 level to win. (1) Dramatic Twist won a NY-bred maiden special weight then faced winners in a starter allowance in her most recent race.

3rd race [NY, Alw 80000 N1X, 1 1/8] – (4) Great Workout (A) is a Repole Stable home-bred who won his debut race at short odds when he started slowly and rallied late to him by a head. (6) Tiergan was second in his last two starts at this level for Rudy Rodriguez. Luis Saez is back in town and gets the mount. (2) Our Man Mike was second twice in NY-bred stakes as a maiden and finally got that first win last time at Aqueduct. (1) Bingo John broke his maiden at the Big A and then was third in a state-bre allowance beaten by only a half-length.

5th race [Clm 40000 N2L, 1 mi] – (3) Advance Notice was eased in a starter allowance last month and now makes the big class drop in this N2L. I am willing to look past a horse being eased as long as they return in a normal time span. (4) Brazillionaire just ran second after setting the pace on Sunday in a turf start. Linda Rice brings him back on short rest on the dirt for $40,000 which is the level at which she claimed him from Chad Brown. He was an $875,000 yearling. (7) Milean was claimed from Todd Pletcher for $20,000 in his last start and now he adds blinkers. He broke his maiden for $50,000 at Gulfstream Park. (6) Dangerous Edge was second in his last two starts in N2L claimers after being claimed for $16,000 a while back.

6th race [Md Sp Wt, 1 3/8 mi TURF] – (11) Wicked Grinch (B) ran second in his debut in a maiden claimer against NY-breds where he started slowly, got far behind, and rallied fast for second. He gets a big rider upgrade for this challenge. (4) Prayer Book missed a maiden score by a neck at Gulfstream on the grass for Todd Pletcher. (3) Royale was last seen in December running third in a similar spot at the Big A and gets Joel Rosario in the saddle. (8) Houdini’s Awesome is also trained by Pletcher who said that they would like to run this guy in restricted races like the Queen’s Plate if he can win as he moves back to the turf.

Best bets:  Up Seventyfour (1st); Advance Notice (5th). Best value: Great Workout (3rd); Wicked Grinch (6th).

No.
