Belmont Park Hotlist - November 6

November 4, 2021

Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Belmont Park
By Matt Shifman and Bob Ehalt

Hot List Key:
 A:
A preferred horse to watch                                 B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worst
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

2nd race [Clm 30000 N2L, 6F TURF] – (9) Khali Magic (C) was back in nine days, was bet down from 7-1 to 5-1, and rallied up the rail for second. Now, she is back in about three weeks. (10) Stella Mars was a maiden winner last time for a $40,000 tag and makes the appropriate move to this N2L level with consistent speed figures that fit with this kind. (4) Lookin to Fly will drop down and cutback to sprinting for Joe Sharp where she had past success. (8) Big Time Lady gets class relief with her first appearance in this restricted condition after past races in NY-bred allowances and stakes.

3rd race [Turnback the Alarm (G3), 1 1/8 mi] – (2) Miss Marissa has a significant class and performance advantage over the rest of this small field. The winner of the Delaware Handicap (G2) is the only horse with early speed and should be able to control the race from the start. (1) Jilted Bride returned from a three-month layoff to run second in a third-level allowance at Churchill Downs in October. She has never run worse than third in her 12 career starts. (5) Gibberish actually ran second behind the top choice in that Delaware Handicap. She comes back from a short freshening for Saffie Joseph whose barn as shown signs of waking up recently. (3) So Darn Hot was an allowance at Belmont back in June.

4th race [NY, Mohawk, 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (4) Somelikeithotbrown finished in the top three in his last four starts which were all in graded stakes. This NY-bred stake drew a field that is loaded with horses that have recent success against open company at the graded level. (3) Cross Border won the Bowling Green (G2) at Saratoga this summer and ran in a pair of Grade1s recently. (8) City Man won the state-bred West Point at the Spa in August and was second in the Fort Marcy (G2) in May. (1) Klickitat was claimed for $45,000 last start by Michael Maker after running second. I expect a significant improvement for this new barn.

6th race [Clm 12500, 1 mi] – (2) O Shea Can U See returns from a July layoff and makes big drop down to a level at which he is typically competitive. (1) I Love Jaxson exits a series of starts in higher level NY-bred races to this open claiming level where he has won. (4) Kumar has held his good form since moving to the barn of Gustavo Rodriguez. He was second in his last start with a jump up in speed figures. (6) Big Mountain was claimed last start and has early speed which is usually helpful at this level of competition.

Best bets:  Miss Marissa (3rd); Somelikeithotbrown (4th). Best value:  Khali Magic (2nd); O Shea Can U See (6th).
