November 5, 2021

Today’s New York Hot List races to watch – Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Belmont Park
By Matt Shifman and Bob Ehalt

Hot List Key:
 A:
A preferred horse to watch                         B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

2nd race [Md Sp Wt, 1 mi] – (4) Afilada (A) was unprepared for the start in his debut race at Belmont Park and was claimed away from Jorge Abreu for $50,000 by Rob Falcone. (5) A Mo Reay was third in her first start and then was third in the Frizette (G1) behind the runaway winner Echo Zulu. (1) Tap the Faith is a $1.25 million yearling purchase that is by Tapit out of a Grade 1 winning mare. Christophe Clement is an excellent trainer of 2-year-olds. (3) Marysvale is a Godolphin / Bill Mott first time runner that is, of course, well bred.

7th race [Clm 25000, 1 mi] – (4) Daddy Knows was claimed back by Linda Rice after missing a win last time by less than a length after setting the pace. (6) Heavy Roller is in fine form in his last two races. (3) Dark Storm was claimed from his last two starts. Most recently he was taken back by Michael Maker for $40,000 who looks for a win with the drop down in price. (8) Hammerin Aamer was an easy winner after being claimed by Gustavo Rodriguez and will step up in this race.

8th race [OC80k/N2X, 7F TURF] – (1) Buy Land and See (B) came back from a year off to run in the Belmont Turf Sprint (G3) where he was keen early, fought restraint, and got stuck in traffic. (9) Artemus Citylimits has two races back from a layoff with improved speed figures and that is a winning pattern. He missed by a head last time at Belmont after a wide trip. (4) Holiday Stone drops in for the $80,000 optional tag as a winner at this level previously. (5) Ballydooley returned from a three-month layoff to win a first-level allowance while getting Lasix for the first time for Michelle Nevin who has had a great Belmont meeting.

9th race [Nashua (G3), 1 mi] – (6) Cairama (C) won his debut at Belmont in September for Steve Asmussen and took late money dropping in odds from 9-1 to 5-1. (4) Midnight Worker won his first career start at Saratoga for Todd Pletcher and then was third in the Sapling at Monmouth Park going today’s distance of a mile. After trying the turf last time, he’s back to the dirt in a one-turn mile. (2) Judge Davis needed his first race for Shug McGaughey and then won on the mud at Belmont going 1 1/16 miles.

Best bets:  Daddy Knows (7th); Buy Land and See (8th). Best value: Afilada (2nd); Cairama (10th).
