Bound for Nowhere Tops Overflow Field in Shakertown

July 8, 2020

Wesley Ward’s Bound for Nowhere, winner of the 2018 Shakertown and runner-up in 2019, headlines an overflow field of 14 and one also-eligible in Saturday’s 24th running of the $150,000 Grade 2 event.

The Shakertown, run at 5½ furlongs on the Keeneland turf course, will go as the sixth race on Saturday’s 10-race program with a 3:51 p.m. post time.

Trained by Ward, Bound for Nowhere was second in the San Simeon (G3) at Santa Anita in March in his lone start of 2020. A victory Saturday would put Bound for Nowhere in the same class as Soaring Free (2004, 2005) as the only two-time winners of the Shakertown.

Julio Garcia has the mount on Bound for Nowhere and will break from post position eight.

Another horse to watch in the Shakertown is W.C. Racing’s Wildman Jack.

Trained by Doug O’Neill, Wildman Jack won the Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint (G3) at Meydan in March and returned to take the Daytona (G3) at Santa Anita in May. Mike Smith has the mount on Wildman Jack and will break from post position two.

The field for the Shakertown, with riders and weights from the inside, is: Extravagant Kid (Joel Rosario, 121 pounds), Wildman Jack (Smith, 123), Real News (Colby Hernandez, 123), Tell YourDaddy (James Graham, 121), Just Might (Alex Achard, 123), Smart Remark (Rafael Bejarano, 121), Fast Boat (Adam Beschizza, 121), Bound for Nowhere (Garcia, 121), Texas Wedge (Flavien Prat, 123), Totally Boss (Brian Hernandez Jr., 123), Tiger Blood (Luis Saez, 121), Corruze (Corey Lanerie, 123), Leinster (Tyler Gaffalione 121), Shared Legacy (Declan Cannon, 121). Also-eligible:Nitrous (Ricardo Santana Jr., 121).
