November 4, 2020

Today’s Keeneland Hot List full-card selections Friday at the Breeders’ Cup
Friday, Nov. 6, 2020

By Bob Ehalt and Matt Shifman

1st race – (4) Upstriker won his debut impressively then tired in a two-turn Grade 1 stakes. Look for a bounce-back effort in a sprint. (6) Quick Tempo has a high turn of speed and will be tough to catch here. (9) Saffa’s Day also has early speed and should be battling to the end. (1) Highly Motivated will be closing quickly at the end.

2nd race - (14) California Lily won easily on the front end in quick time while making her debut and can handle these with a similar effort. That win was on synthetics but being a daughter of California Chrome she should be able to handle dirt as well. (11) Farsighted won easily over the track and may emerge as the main rival. (2) Off We Go can benefit from an inside trip. (9) The Grass Is Blue will be closing quickly in the stretch.

3rd race – (15) Ajourneytofreedom will need a scratch in order to run but ran well enough in the Grade 1 Belmont Derby to pull out a victory here. (2) No Word was second in that race and can register a win if the pace works out right for him. (9) Order of Australia flopped in his last start in Europe but can rebound with Lasix today. (11) Mo Ready will also benefit from a moderate pace.

4th race – (4) Into Chocolate shipped west and fizzled in her first race there but then perked up with a win. Heads east again and looks best in this spot. (7) Unholy Alliance was a wide fourth in a Grade 2 stakes and should be more competitive here. (9) Royal Charlotte will welcome a return to six furlongs. (2) Amy’s Challenge could be tough to catch.

5th race – (8) Ry’s the Guy is well-versed in distance racing and showed enough in his last victory at 1 ½ miles to be the choice here. (13) Cupid’s Claws will be a major force based on a decisive win in his dirt debut. (14) Danny California cannot be overlooked while looking for a fourth straight win. (1) Muralist will be helped by a rail trip.

6th race – The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint - (14) Golden Pal has too much speed for this field and should win with a gate-to-wire trip. (13) Second of July has a nice closing kick and looms as the main threat. (6) Ubettabelieveit won a Group 2 stakes in England and will be a leading contender in this field. (11) Into the Sunrise also has a nice turn of speed and could hang on for a share of the purse.

7th race – The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf - (4) Public Sector disappointed as a 4-5 favorite last night but can rebound with a winning effort here for top turf trainer Chad Brown. (1) Sealiway stepped up big-time to take a Group 1 stakes and is very much the one to fear. (9) Battleground is another European who should make his presence felt. (11) Gretzky the Great will put his speed to use from an outside post and may not look back.

8th race – The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies - (7) Princess Noor has the making of another star for Baffert and gets the nod here. (1) Simply Ravishing should be on the lead turning for home and will be difficult to reel in. (3) Dayoutoftheoffice is undefeated and has the makings of an excellent two-turn router and should be in the picture at the end. (5) Girl Daddy is also undefeated and can land in the exotics.

9th race – The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies - (5) Aunt Pearl won the Jessamine Stakes at Keeneland in sharp fashion and seems poised for another front-running victory over the course. (2) Miss Amulet is a European who has been no worse than second in her last five starts and should have a big say in the outcome. (4) Plum Ali is a perfect 3-for-3 and has improved with each start. (14) Editor At Large switches to Castellano who may be able to work out a good trip from the outside post.

10th race – The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile - (9) Sittin On Go was a surprising 24-1 winner of the Grade 3 Iroquois and could notch another victory with the help of a bitter speed duel. (7) Jackie’s Warrior is a very deserving favorite but will have to overcome significant pressure on the front end. (5) Essential Quality will be part of that pace scenario and is talented enough to land in the winner’s circle. (6) Keepmeinmind is another closer whose chances will improve with a fast pace.
