Dos Vinos Holds off Club Car to Win Thursday’s Featured Runnymede Purse

Tom Durant’s odds-on favorite Dos Vinos held off a fast-closing Club Car by a neck to win Thursday’s $79,000 Runnymede Purse for fillies and mares. (Clickhere for a video of the race.)

Trained by Bret Calhoun and ridden by Mitchell Murrill, Dos Vinos covered the 6 furlongs on the main track labeled muddy in 1:09.71

Dos Vinos, a Keeneland sale graduate, took command at the top of the stretch and opened a daylight advantage with enough left to fend off Club Car.

The 4-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Twirling Candy out of the Distorted Humor mare Gatorette improved her record to 5-3-1-1 and increased her earnings to $170,908 with Thursday’s $47,400 check.

Dos Vinos returned $3.60, $2.60 and $2.20. Club Car, ridden by Corey Lanerie, paid $4.20 and $3.40 with Summer Delivery finishing third another 2¼ lengths back under Tyler Baze and paying $5 to show.

Racing continues Friday with a nine-race program beginning at 1:05 p.m. ET that includes two stakes: $300,000 Maker’s Mark Mile (G1) and $100,000 Beaumont (G3) Presented by Keeneland Select. The Beaumont is the seventh race (4:24 p.m. post time) followed by the Maker’s Mark Mile at 4:57 p.m.
