Forte, Wonder Wheel Represent Keeneland Sales, Racing on Day 1 of Breeders’ Cup
November 4, 2022Two 2-year-olds who sold at Keeneland’s 2021 September Yearling Sale and captured Grade 1 stakes during Keeneland’s 2022 Fall Meet – Forte and Wonder Wheel – prevailed in the richest races of today’s Future Stars Friday on the first day of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, being held here for the third time.
Forte, who races for Repole Stable and St. Elias Stable, overtook heavy favorite Cave Rock in the stretch to win the $2 million FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) Presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. Also a graduate of Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale, the colt by Violence won Keeneland’s Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity (G1) on Oct. 8 after taking Saratoga’s Hopeful (G1) on Sept. 5.
In the $2 million NetJet Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), D. J. Stable’s Wonder Wheel rallied to post a three-length victory for her fourth win in five starts. The Into Mischief filly, also an alumnus of the September Sale, was coming off a win in Keeneland’s Darley Alcibiades (G1) on Oct. 7.
