By Bob Ehalt and Matt Shifman

Hot List Key:

A : A preferred horse to watch                   B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches in the final 3 minutes and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

1st race – (2) Carrobio perked up in his first start on dirt and rallied strongly to finish second at Tampa Bay. Looks best here in a claimer. (5) Divert has a good chance of finishing second in a weak field. (1) Nepomuceno is worth a look in his debut. (3) Kantstaros heads into his debut with sharp works and should be a main threat. Betting strategy: 2 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-2-3-5.

3rd race – (8) Infatuating (B) dropped into a claimer for the first time and responded with a big maiden win. (4) Luisana Princess was bumped in the stretch and finished fourth in her first try against winners. Should improve here. (3) Strong Azteca has aa nice turn of speed and might hang on here. (1) Lyrical drops and might be tough to catch at this level. Betting strategy: 8 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-3-4-8.

5th race – (1) Uncaptured Ruby has her claiming price cut in half and should prove tough to catch from the rail. (7) Papa’s Little Girl tired last time at this level, but now debuts for Zerpa off the claim with blinkers on and a switch to  Irad. She should take a step forward here. (4) Sunset Empire will also be part of the early pace and should be battling to the end. (2) Worth Avenue has the kind of late kick that will benefit from a speed duel. Betting strategy: 1 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-2-4-7.

8th race – (9) R Adios Jersey (A) won by more than 12 lengths in an auspicious debut. Takes a big jump in class but seems capable of another strong try here. (1) To a T cuts back to a sprint and should welcome that move. (4) Dem a Wonder ran evenly late to finish fourth in her first try against maidens and should move forward here. (3) Mon Petit Chou was a sharp maiden win in August and will be formidable here if ready. Betting strategy: 9 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-3-4-9. Doubles: 1-3-4-9 with 2-4-6-8.

9th race – (2) Velvet Crush debuts for Chad Brown while returning to dirt. Can prevail here on her best try. (4) Hopeful Growth has not raced since October when she was third in the Black-Eyed Susan and looks like the one to fear. (6) Lake Avenue is training in a manner that bodes well for an improved performance. (8) Finding Fame has never been worse than second and will be a major player if there’s no rust after more than seven months on the sideline. Betting strategy: 2 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-4-6-8.
