Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021

By Bob Ehalt and Matt Shifman

Hot List Key:

A : A preferred horse to watch                   B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches in the final 3 minutes and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

1st race – (7) Dance Company makes his debut for Ward and seems ready for a sharp effort. (1) North Pole makes his first start since moving to Cox’s barn and should be a contender. (6) Centurion was hurt by a stumbling start and should turn in a better showing here. (8) Holiday Ticket is another firster who should be considered for a win bet. Betting strategy: 7 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-6-7-8.

4th race – (1) Full Focus (D) dropped from 8-5 to 6-5 for her debut and never fired. That was on a wet and perhaps a dry surface will bring out the best in her. (3) Sonnyneedsmoney showed little in her debut but has worked nicely since then and might like two turns. (4) Surprising sheds blinkers and might run better without them. (6) Coco Puff was an improved third last time and merits consideration. Betting strategy: 1 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-3. Exactas: 1-3 over 4-6 and 4-6 over 1-3.

7th race – (7) Let’s Be Clear has never been worse than second in three career starts and looks best here. (3) Miz Jameson switches to the main track and seems to be bred for it. (6) Manasota Sunset was third in a stakes last time and will be dangerous here. (8) Code for Success has two-turn experience in a stakes but drew a rough post. Betting strategy: 7 to win, place. Exacta box: 3-6-7-8. Doubles: 3-6-7-8 with 2-4-7-10. Pick 3: 3-6-7-8 with 2-4-7-10 with 1-2-4-6.

8th race – The Indian Summer Stakes Presented by Keeneland Select - (7) Averly Jane makes her turf debut against males but this filly is fast enough and has the right pedigree and trainer in Ward to handle this field. (4) Pure Panic returns quickly from a weak effort and might wake up here with Prat aboard. (2) Kaufymaker is another filly trained by Ward and she fits in nicely with this field. (10) Diamond City won a Woodbine stakes and should be a major factor. Betting strategy: 7 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-4-7-10. Doubles: 2-4-7-10 with 1-2-4-6.

9th race – The Juddmonte Spinster - (4) Letruska is the division leader and is definitely the one to beat here. (6) Crystal Ball was a good second to Shedaresthedevil and should be the main rival here. (2) Bonny South will be closing quickly in the final furlong. (1) Dunbar Road can work out a good trip from the rail and merits consideration. Betting strategy: 4 to win, place. Exacta box: 4-6. Exactas: 4-6 over 1-2 and 1-2 over 4-6.
