$475,000 McKinzie Colt Tops Monday at Keeneland September Yearling Sale 

A colt by McKinzie sold to Reeves Thoroughbred Racing for $475,000 to post the highest price of Monday’s seventh session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

Keeneland sold a total of 288 yearlings sold through the ring Monday for $25,234,000, up 2.57% from last year when 305 horses brought $24,601,500. The average of $87,618 increased 8.62% over $80,661 in 2023. The median rose 7.69% from $65,000 to $70,000. 

With five sessions remaining in the September Sale, Keeneland cumulatively has sold 1,454 yearlings for $361,642,000, an increase of 4.99% from $344,446,500 for 1,504 horses sold during the same period last year. The average of $248,722 was 8.60% higher than $229,034 in 2023, while the median rose 13.33% from $150,000 to $170,000.  

Monday’s session-topping McKinzie colt was consigned by Gainesway, agent, which sold 25 horses for $4,082,000 to lead consignors. Out of the winning stakes-placed mare Ruby Trust, by Smart Strike, he is from the family of Grade 3 winner Queen Ofthe Catsle.

Hip 2179 sells for $475,000

Amo Racing USA paid $425,000 for a filly from the first crop of multiple Grade 1 winner Maxfield who is a half-sister to 2024 Amsterdam (G2) winner World Record. Consigned by Runnymede Farm, agent, the filly is out of Marwa (GB) by Exceed And Excel and from the family of Grade 2 winners Miss Isella, Sir Cherokee and Intricate.

Gainesway, agent, also consigned two colts each sold for $400,000.

The first was a son of McKinzie purchased by West Bloodstock, agent for Repole Stable. Out of the Tapit mare Tapany, the colt is from the family of Grade 1 winners Tizway, Will’s Way and Willa On the Move.

The second to bring $400,000 was a son of Maxfield sold to Marc Tacher. Out of stakes winner Ceci Valentina, by Prospective, he is from the family of multiple Grade 2 winner Classy Cara.

A colt by Cairo Prince who is a half-brother to stakes winner Factor It In was purchased for $385,000 by Rigney Racing. Consigned by Pope McLean (Crestwood Farm), agent, he is out of the Speightstown mare Speightlass and from the family of Grade 2 winners Following Sea and Mitterand.

Oracle Bloodstock, agent, spent $375,000 for a colt by Maxfield consigned by Stonehaven Steadings. Out of stakes winner Walloon, by Alphabet Soup, he is from the family of Grade 1 winner Western Aristocrat and Grade 2 winner Harissa.

A colt from the first crop of Independence Hall sold for $350,000 to Jim and Dana Bernhard’s Pin Oak Stud. Consigned by Gainesway, agent, he is out of the winning Into Mischief mare Into Oblivion and from the family of Grade 3 winners Valid Expectations and Little Sister.

The session’s leading buyer was Kenneth McPeek, agent, who acquired six yearlings for $935,000.
