Music City Stables acquired a weanling filly from the first crop of stakes winner Nashville for $85,000 to record the highest purchase price of Tuesday’s next-to-last session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
Consigned by Buckland Sales (Zach Madden), agent, the filly is out of the winning Cindago mare Be a Lady and from the family of Grade 3 winners Stem the Tide, Gottcha Gold and American Freedom.
For the session, Keeneland sold 236 horses through the ring for $3,184,100, a 3.88% increase from last year when total receipts were $3,065,300 for 258 horses. The average of $13,492 was 13.56% higher than $11,881 for the corresponding session in 2023. The median of $10,000 rose 8.11% from last year’s $9,250.
With one day remaining in the auction, 1,839 horses have sold through the ring for $184,644,600, which marks a 6.16% increase over last’s year’s cumulative gross of $173,925,300 for 1,873 horses sold through eight days. The average of $100,405 is 8.13% above last year’s $92,859, while the median of $45,000 is 12.50% higher than $40,000 last year.
Also on Tuesday, Machmer Hall purchased a weanling colt by Oscar Performance for $75,000. Consigned by Claiborne Farm, agent, he is out of the winning Ghostzapper mare Screenwriter and from the family of Canadian Horse of the Year Arravale.
Two horses each brought $52,000.
Machmer Hall spent the amount for Secret Ballot, an 11-year-old mare by Courageous Cat carrying a member of the first crop of foals by champion Arcangelo. Out of Private Status, by Alydar, she is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Secret Status and Grade 3 winner Alumni Hall. Secret Ballot is the dam of stakes-placed Savoy, by Honor Code.
Secret Ballot was consigned by Lane’s End, agent, the session’s leading consignor with sales of $492,500 for 25 horses.
Also spending $52,000 was Sadie Racing Stable on a weanling filly by Tiz the Law. Consigned by Legacy Bloodstock, agent, she is out of Lightning Lucy, by Giant’s Causeway, and from the family of Grade 1 winner and sire Devil His Due.
Two horses brought $50,000 apiece.
The first was a weanling colt from the first crop of Belmont (G1) winner Mo Donegal sold for the amount to Shortleaf Stable. Consigned by Castle Park Farm (Noel Murphy), agent, he is a half-brother to stakes winner Baytown Chatterbox and from the family of Grade 2 winner and sire Pulpit. His dam is stakes winner Endless Chatter, by First Samurai.
Cem Sevim paid $50,000 for the stallion prospect Beatbox, a Grade 3-winning son of Pioneerof the Nile who is a half-brother to Grade 1 winner Guarana. Consigned by Lane’s End, agent, he is out of the winning Distorted Humor mare Magical World and from the family of Grade 1 winner Pleasant Home and Grade 2 winner Country Hideaway.
Tuesday’s leading buyer was Mahmud F. Mouni, who paid $191,200 for 11 horses.
