1st race [Md Sp Wt, 1 mi] – (6) Malarchuk finished second in both of his starts. He had a slow start in September, then went to the lead in December, and missed by a nose going long. (5) Cuando also had a pair of place finishes in his first two starts and was fourth behind the second-place finisher from the Wood (G2). (4) Sequential will make his first start for Chad Brown. The $335,000 yearling has been training in New York. (3) Well Schooled shows fast workouts for his first start for Linda Rice who had a firster win the other day.
5th race [NY, Md 30000, 7F] – (3) Compute It has four good races in maiden claimers with three finishes on the board. (5) Within View was third in his debut in February and then tried a maiden special weight. Both races were on wet and sealed tracks. (1) Neptune Beach was third both times that he ran for this $30,000 level. (8) Bingood to Knowya returned from a layoff to drop into maiden claimers for the first time.
6th race [OC50k/SAL50k, 6F] – (6) Snappin Buttons (A) was a heavy favorite in her debut, got off to a slow start, and then won easily by more than six lengths. (2) Don’t Listen showed promise in three starts last year ending with a front-end maiden win for a $75,000 tag that showed a big jump in speed figures. (1) Grab the Glory returned from a seven month layoff to win a maiden claimer by seven lengths with Lasix for the first time. (4) Six Pack Senorita won a maiden claimer in January from which the second-place horse came back to win and then run second in a spot like this one.
8th race [NY, Md 30000, 7F] – (7) Alpha Sonny (B) had a huge improvement to run second last time and comes right back. (4) Sondsliksomdiniddo debuted on the turf in September and then came back in January on the main track and ran fifth against open company. (6) Savage Spirit dropped into the claiming ranks this year and got a third and a second and missed by a neck last month. (5) Janssen dropped in for a tag for the first time and ran second the whole way with a career best speed figure.
Best bets: Malarchuk (1st); Snappin Buttons (6th). Best value: Compute It (5th); Alpha Sonny (8th).
