th race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 6 ½ F] – (8) Find Your Joy (C) was bet down from 9-2 to 5-2, dropped into a maiden claimer and ran on the dirt for the first time, then set the pace and finished second. (5) Five to Two made three starts and finished second twice with a third for Linda Rice. (2) The Shoe Lady was sent off at 2-1 in her debut for the Clement barn and ran fourth. (4) Rainingatthebeach is a daughter of Uncle Mo, bred and now raced by Repole Stable. She trained for her first start at Todd Pletcher’s winter base at Palm Beach Downs.

th race [NY, Alw 72000 N1X, 6F] – (7) Donegal Surges (B) came back from a long layoff of more than a year having won his first start and then was second in a NY-bred stakes race. He got pinched back and steadied at the start as the favorite and fourth was the best that he could do. (2) Warolo has 12 career starts and only once missed a top three finish with six wins. Most were at Finger Lakes but the last two were at the Big A. (4) Rollin in Dough won his debut for Jonathan Thomas by a head in December beating a horse that won his next start. (5) Icy Flavor has four second-place finishes at this level with plenty of early speed and the blinkers come back off.

th race [NY, Haynesfield, 1 mi] – (3) Dr Ardito returned to NY-bred racing following a pair of starts in Grade 2 races. He won the Alex M. Robb at the end of December getting up in the final strides after running second in the Forty Niner (G2) and seventh in the Cigar Mile (G2). The now 6-year-old has eight career victories and earnings of just below $500,000. (1) Olympic Dreams was entered in a top-level allowance but opted for the Haynesfield. He was second in a state-bred stakes race in May and recently won two allowances against open company. (7) Maker’s Candy will ensure that there is early speed in the race. He also won a pair of allowance races against open company going the one-turn mile at Aqueduct. (5) Anejo won his way through open company allowances last spring and now returns from a layoff since May. He ships up from Keeneland where he has been training for this return race.

th race [NY, Md 30000, 6F] – (4) Ring Me (B) was third in his debut at this level for a trainer that is good with new horses and is having a strong winter meeting with a 29% win rate. He broke slowly and rallied on a track that favored horses on the lead. (6) Perfect Outcome (C) was bet down from 7-1 to 5-1 and finished fourth. (5) Good Reunion was claimed by Linda Rice two races back from a second-place finish. Recent speed figures are better than the rest of this field. (1) English Storm was second last time at this level.

Best bets: Dr Ardito (8th); Ring Me (9th). Best value: Find Your Joy (6th); Donegal Surges (7th).
