West Point Thoroughbreds’ Brigadier General held off a late bid from a ground-saving War Campaign to win Friday’s featured $128,925 Newtownanner Stud Purse for 3-year-olds and up by a half-length. (Click here for a video of the race.)

Trained by Dallas Stewart and ridden by Tyler Gaffalione, Brigadier General covered the mile on a sloppy main track in 1:36.82. The race was moved off the turf course.

Now 2-for-2 at Keeneland in his career, Brigadier General is a 4-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Street Sense out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Mia and Molly. The victory was worth $77,578 and improved Brigadier General’s earnings to $304,529 with a record of 17-4-4-2.

Brigadier General returned payoffs of $17.20, $9.58 and $5.80. War Campaign, ridden by Corey Lanerie, returned $5.26 and $3.38 with Minnesota Ready finishing third under Flavien Prat and paying $4.18 to show.
