Trainer Larry Demeritte reports that his 2024 Kentucky Derby (G1) Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) starter, West Saratoga, is thriving in Dubai after being purchased in December by Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi's RRR Racing.

For Demeritte and previous owner Harry Veruchi, who purchased the colt for $11,000 at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, West Saratoga chalked up a record of 13-2-5-1 with $473,418 in earnings. In 2023, he won the Iroquois (G3) at Churchill Downs.

West Saratoga’s new owner recently sent Demeritte a five-minute video in which he talked about West Saratoga and his stable, which includes grass paddocks, sand pens and state-of-the art equine exercise equipment. 

“I’m so happy that the owner keeps in touch with me,” Demeritte said. “He calls West Saratoga ‘your boy.’ ”

West Saratoga is in training for his 4-year-old debut.
