Keeneland’s 2022 September Yearling Sale produced five 3-year-old colts – including 8-5 morning line favorite Muth – who are entered in the 149th running of the $2 million Preakness (G1) at Pimlico on Saturday. Post time for the 1 3/16-mile race is 7:01 p.m. ET. 

A total of 27 Keeneland sales graduates have captured the Preakness, including six of the past eight winners: Early Voting (2022), the filly Swiss Skydiver (2020), War of Will (2019), Triple Crown winer Justify(2018), Cloud Computing (2017) and Exaggerator (2016).

The nine horses entered in the Preakness include these September Sale alumni: 

Catching Freedom (Constitution-Catch My Drift): The winner of the Twinspires.com Louisiana Derby (G2) and the Smarty Jones Stakes sold to Albaugh Family Stables, Barry Berkelhammer, agent, for $575,000 at Book 1 of the September Sale. He was consigned by Warrendale Sales, agent for WinStar Farm Bred & Raised. Flavien Prat will ride Catching Freedom for trainer Brad Cox. 

Imagination (Into Mischief-Magical Feeling): Peter E. Blum Thoroughbreds bred Imagination, winner of the DK Horse San Felipe (G2) and second in the Santa Anita Derby (G1), and consigned him, with Bridie Harrison, agent, to Book 1 of the September Sale. He sold to Donato Lanni, agent for SF/Starlight/Madaket, for $1.05 million. Frankie Dettori will ride Imagination for trainer Bob Baffert and owners SF Racing, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, Stonestreet Stables, Dianne Bashor, Robert E. Masterson, Waves Edge Capital, Catherine Donovan and Tom J. Ryan.

Just Steel (Justify-Irish Lights [AUS]): During Book 1 of the September Sale, John Bellinger and Brian Coelho’s BC Stables paid $500,000 for Just Steel, runner-up in the Arkansas Derby (G1) and the Southwest (G3). Bred by Summerhill Farm, he was consigned by Eaton Sales, agent. BC Stables owns Just Steel with Henry Schmueckle. Joel Rosario will ride the colt for trainer D. Wayne Lukas.

Muth (Good Magic-Hoppa): Don Alberto Corporation bred the winner of the Arkansas Derby (G1), the American Pharoah (G1) and the San Vicente (G2), who is trained by Bob Baffert. Bishop Bloodstock purchased the colt at the September Sale for $190,000 from consignor Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent. Zedan Racing Stables owns Muth, who will be ridden by Juan Hernandez.

Tuscan Gold (Medaglia d’Oro-Valadorna): Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent for Stonestreet Bred & Raised, consigned the Twinspires.com Louisiana Derby (G2) third-place finisher to the September Sale. He was purchased by Jupiter Farm for $600,000. Chad Brown trains Tuscan Gold for William H. Lawrence, Walmac Farm and Stonestreet Stables. Tyler Gaffalione will ride.
