Jerry Caroom and Jeffrey Lambert’s Girl Named Charlie overtook frontrunning Blissful at the sixteenth pole en route to a 1¼ -length victory in the featured $125,324 Four Star Purse on the final Sunday of Keeneland’s Spring Meet. (Click here for a replay of the race.)
Trained by Lindsay Schultz and ridden by Florent Geroux for his second win of the day, Girl Named Charlie raced in second place for all of the 1 1/8-mile race on firm turf against seven older fillies and mares before making her winning move. Her time for the race was 1:46.91.
Girl Named Charlie, a Keeneland sales graduate, is a 4-year-old daughter of Maclean’s Music out of the Dynaformer mare Dynarama who was bred in Kentucky by Don Alberto Corporation. She entered today’s race with one victory in three previous starts this year at Fair Grounds in New Orleans.
The Keeneland performance was worth $77,578 for Girl Named Charlie, who improved her record to 15-4-1-0 with earnings of $222,652.
Girl Named Charlie paid $14.12, $7.66 and $4.44. Blissful, ridden by Brian Hernandez Jr, returned $12.68 and $6.46 and finished three-quarters of a length ahead of favored Immensitude (FR), who paid $3.12 to show under Junior Alvarado.
