David Bernsen and John Stuart’s Goldeneye surged to the front passing the three-sixteenths pole and then held off a late bid from favored Six Minus by a half-length to win the featured $120,000 Hermitage Farm Purse for 3-year-olds and up Wednesday afternoon. (Click here for a video of the race.)
Trained by Peter Eurton and ridden by Flavien Prat, Goldeneye completed the 1½ miles over a turf course rated as good in 2:32.96.
A Keeneland sales graduate, Goldeneye is a 5-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Hard Spun out of the Street Sense mare Street of Gold. The victory was worth $68,820 and improved Goldeneye’s earnings to $303,285 with a record of 23-4-5-3.
Goldeneye returned $14.24, $6.44 and $4.20. Six Minus, ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., returned $4.60 and $3.20 and finished a head in front of Better Bet, who paid $3.66 to show under Jose Ortiz.
