Gross Sales at Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale Power Past 2023 Total with Two Days Remaining

Total sales through the ring at this year’s Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale through Monday, the seventh day of the nine-day auction, reached $181.4 million to surpass the gross of $176.5 million for the entire nine-day sale last year. 

Keeneland sold 278 horses through the ring Monday for $8,464,600, a 19.76% jump from the seventh session last year when 272 horses grossed $7,067,900. The average of $30,448 was 17.18% higher than $25,985 in 2023, while the median rose 21.05% from $19,000 to $23,000.

Cumulative through-the-ring sales with two days remaining in the auction are $181,460,500 for 1,603 horses, up 6.20% from the same period last year when 1,615 horses sold for $170,860,000. Average price rose 7.00% from $105,796 to $113,201. The median of $57,000 represented an increase of 14.00% from last year’s $50,000. 

Headlining Monday sales was Cherry Knoll Farm’s purchase of a weanling colt by Upstart for $155,000. Indian Creek, agent, consigned the son of Honey Muffin, by Candy Ride (ARG). He is from the family of Grade 3 winners Her Royalty and Gloryzapper. 

Three horses each sold for $120,000.

John Donahue paid the amount for a weanling filly by McKinzie out of the American Pharoah mare Shop American. Consigned by Stoneriggs Farm, agent, she is from the family of stakes winners Stopshoppingdebbie, Shampoo, Smarty Deb and Finallygotabentley.

Crosshaven Bloodstock spent $120,000 for Silent Wings, a 4-year-old daughter of Quality Road carrying her first foal by Honor A. P. Out of Grade 3 winner Sky Girl, by Sky Mesa, she is from the family of champion Abel Tasman; Grade 1 winner Bevo; and Grade 2 winners and sires Wilburn and Beethoven. Silent Wings was consigned by Paramount Sales, agent.

Multiple Grade 1 winner Belle Gallantey, a 15-year-old daughter of After Market in foal to McKinzie, sold to Chad Schumer/KGS for $120,000. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, she is out of the winning Old Trieste mare Revealed.

Taylor Made Sales Agency was Monday’s leading consignor with sales of $1,183,000 for 34 horses.

Cashew Stables paid $110,000 for a weanling filly by Cairo Prince consigned by Bill Murphy, agent. Out of stakes-placed winner Karsavina, by Margie’s Wildcat, she is from the family of Grade 1 winner Hostage and stakes winners Central Heat, Prego and Loquacious Don.

A filly from the first crop of classic winner Mandaloun brought a bid of $105,000 from Grooms Lane. Consigned by Eaton Sales, agent, the filly is out of stakes winner Keewatin Ice, by Intidab. 

The session’s leading buyer, Mahmud F. Mouni, acquired Vivacious Venezie, a 10-year-old mare by Tapit in foal to McKinzie, for $100,000. Consigned by Gainesway, agent, she is out of the Storm Cat mare Prof. McGonagall and from the family of Grade 3 winners Kukulcan, Ultra Brat and It’s Tea Time.

Mouni spent $278,000 for eight horses.

Tuesday and Wednesday are the final two days of the November Breeding Stock Sale, with both sessions beginning at 10 a.m. ET.

On Thursday, Keeneland will hold the November Horses of Racing Age Sale. The auction starts at noon.
