Total sales at this year’s Keeneland September Yearling Sale through Wednesday, the ninth day of the 12-day auction, reached $396 million to surpass the gross of $394 million for the entire 12-day auction last year. At $350,000, the session’s most expensive horse was a colt by Not This Time consigned by Woods Edge Farm, agent, and purchased by Justin Casse.
Cumulatively, Keeneland has sold 2,048 yearlings through the ring for $396,213,500, up 4.44% from the corresponding period last year when the gross was $379,373,200 for 2,103 horses. Average price of $193,464 rose 7.24% from $180,396, while the median of $110,000 increased 10% from $100,000 in 2023.
Keeneland on Wednesday sold 308 yearlings through the ring for $13,744,000, up 2.34% from last year’s gross of $13,430,200 when 298 horses sold. Average price of $44,623 was similar to last year’s $45,068. The median increase 4.48% from $33,500 to $35,000.
The session topper is a full brother to Grade 3 winner Easy Time and a half-sister to stakes winner Softly Lit. From the family of Grade 3 winners Palliser Bay, He Loves Me and Mr Dumas, the colt is out of the Cape Town mare Running Creek.
A colt by Daredevil out of the Eskendereya mare Come Follow Me sold for $200,000 to Jim and Dana Bernhard’s Pin Oak Stud. Consigned by Gainesway, agent, the colt is from the family of Grade 1 winners and sires Majestic Harbor and Danza.
Two yearlings sold for $190,000 each.
FMQ Stables paid the amount for a son of Jimmy Creed who is a half-brother to Group 3 winner Commissioner King. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, he is from the family of Grade 3 winner Frosty Skater and Frosty the Snowman. His dam is Ek Haseena, a winning daughter of Songandaprayer.
Barry Berkelhammer, agent, went to $190,000 for a Violence colt who is out of stakes winner Starlite Starbrite, by Mutakddim, and a half-sister to stakes winner Drena’s Star. Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa, agent, he is from the family of stakes winners Starlight Surprise, Star Mabee and Truebreadpudding.
A daughter of Vekoma from the family of Grade 3 winner Go Forth North sold to Team D for $180,000. Consigned by Greenfield Farms, agent, she is out of the Mineshaft mare Bay Witch.
Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa, agent, consigned a Ghostzapper colt purchased for $175,000 by Captiva Bloodstock. Out of Poets Dreamed, a winning daughter of Maclean’s Music, he is from the family of Grade 1 winners Lady Tak and Volatile.
Alabdullatif Bloodstock, agent for SBS Global, acquired a colt by Vekoma for $165,000. Consigned by Gainesway, agent, he is out of stakes winner Sliver of Hope, by Value Plus.
Gainesway, agent, was the day’s leading consignor, selling 22 horses for $1,227,000.
A filly by Cairo Prince who is a half-sister to stakes winner Candidate sold to CA Racing for $160,000. Out of stakes winner Navy Ribbon, by Pure Prize, and from the family of stakes winners Sea Rescue and Waves and Tides, she was consigned by Paramount Sales, agent.
For the fourth consecutive session, Kenneth McPeek, agent, was the leading buyer, spending $515,000 for seven yearlings.
