The $400,000 Tampa Bay Derby (G3), Tampa Bay Downs – Race 11 – The Tampa Bay Derby drew a field of ten 3-year-olds that will compete on the Kentucky Derby trail for qualifying points of 50-25-15-10-5 that are available to the top five eligible finishers. Only two horses in the field have won some Derby qualifying points already. (10) Sturdy comes into this race still a maiden after three starts. He finished in the top three each time and lost to a pair of horses that are now winners on the Derby trail. In his last race, just two weeks ago, he was beaten by only a half-length and earned a competitive speed figure. (7) No More Time won the Sam F. Davis with a front-end effort earning 10 Derby points. In his prior start he was rank while trying to be rated and should be expected to go to the lead again from the outside. He made his dirt debut last month and was third in the Swale at Gulfstream. Betting strategy Exacta box: 5, 7, 9, 10. Trifecta box: 5, 7, 9, 10.
