Keeneland September Graduate Shareholder Wins at Royal Ascot

Keeneland September Yearling Sale graduate Shareholder opened Thursday’s card at Royal Ascot in England by winning the Norfolk (G2) for 2-year-olds racing 5 furlongs. With the victory, he earns an automatic berth to the 2024 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1) at Del Mar.

At the 2023 September Sale, Shareholder was consigned by Frankfort Park Farm, agent, and sold to MC Bloodstock for $62,000. The colt by Not This Time, who was bred by Skyfall Thoroughbreds, is owned by Wathnan Racing. James Doyle rode the winner for trainer Karl Burke.

Friday, June 21

Race 1: Albany (G3) (2-year-old fillies, 6 furlongs) at 9:30 a.m.

  • Hat Creek Racing’s Burning Pine opened her career at Keeneland with a 3½-length victory April 26 going 4½ furlongs on dirt. Hat Creek paid $80,000 for the Nyquist filly at the 2023 September Sale. Joel Rosario will ride for trainer Wesley Ward.

Race 5: Sandringham (3-year-old fillies, 1 mile) at 11:05 a.m.

  • John C. Oxley’s Without Words, a daughter of Mendelssohn, was consigned by Blandford Stud (Padraig Campion), agent, to the 2022 September Sale and sold to Durcan Bloodstock/Longways for $85,000. Trained by Joseph O’Brien, she will be ridden by Dylan McMonagle.

Saturday, June 22

Race 1: Chesham (L) (2-year-olds, 7 furlongs) at 9:30 a.m.

  • Duke of Monroth, a colt by Street Sense, was consigned by Lane’s End, agent, to the 2023 September Sale and sold for $75,000 to Tally Ho. Raphael Freire trains the colt for Amo Racing Limited. David Egan will ride.
  • Motawahij, a colt by American Pharoah who races for King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Sons Stables, is a graduate of two Keeneland sales. Four Star Sales, agent, consigned him as a weanling to the 2022 November Breeding Stock Sale, where he sold for $250,000 to Rowland Hancock. Pope McLean (Crestwood Farm), agent, consigned Motawahij to the 2023 September Sale and sold him for $225,000 to Durcan Bloodstock/Longways Stable. Clifford Lee will ride for trainer Karl Burke. The colt is out of Stillwater Cove, who ran in the 2018 Albany (G3) for trainer Wesley Ward.

Race 2: Hardwicke (G2) (4-year-olds and up, 1½ miles) at 10:05 a.m.

  • Elliott/Aguiar for AMO Racing USA purchased Elegant Man, a 4-year-old colt by Arrogate, for $115,000 at the 2021 September Sale from the consignment of breeder KatieRich Farms. Trained by Adrian Murray for Amo Racing Limited, he will be ridden by David Egan.
  • Santa Anita-basedmultiple Grade 3 winner Missed the Cut, second in Keeneland’s VisitLEX Elkhorn (G2) in April in his most recent race, is trained by John Sadler for owners Babington, Lef, St. Elias, Hudson and Luxus. A 5-year-old son of Quality Road, Missed the Cut sold as a weanling at the 2019 November Sale from the consignment of Hunter Valley Farm, agent. James Doyle will ride.

Race 4: Jersey (G3) (3-year-olds, 7 furlongs) at 11:25 a.m.

  • Hunter Valley Farm, agent, consigned Eben Shaddad at the 2022 September Sale, where the colt by Calyx sold to Margaret O’Toole for $100,000. Owned by HRH Prince Faisal Bin Khaled and Najd Stud, he is trained by John and Thady Gosden and will be ridden by Kieran Shoemark.
