McKinzie Weanling, Broodmare Thrill Share $200,000 Top Price Sunday at Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale

Two horses – a weanling colt by McKinzie and the broodmare Thrill, in foal to champion Up to the Mark – both sold for $200,000 to post the highest price of Sunday’s sixth session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Cherry Knoll Farm bought the weanling, who is from the family of champion Street Sense and Grade 1 winner Vekoma. Consigned by Nardelli Sales, agent, the colt is out of Social Gal, by Pure Prize.

John D. Gunther purchased Thrill, a 7-year-old Candy Ride (ARG) mare carrying a member of the first crop by Up to the Mark. A half-sister to Grade 2 winner Stolen Base from the family of Grade 3 winner Race Artist, she was consigned by Lane’s End, agent.

Lane’s End Farm led consignors Sunday by selling 26 horses for $1,329,000.

During the session, 270 horses sold through the ring for $9,642,400, which increased 6.62% from the sixth session last year when 285 horses brought $9,044,100. The average rose 12.54% from $31,734 to $35,713, and the median of $25,000 is 8.70% above $23,000 last year.

Keeneland cumulatively has sold 1,325 horses through the ring for $172,995,900, for an average of $130,563 and a median of $72,000. The gross is 5.62% higher than the corresponding period last year when 1,343 horses sold for $163,792,100, while the average is 7.05% above $121,960 in 2023 and the median jumped 10.77% from $65,000.

Also on Sunday, a weanling colt by McKinzie consigned by Grovendale Sales, agent, sold for $195,000 to Tracy Farmer. Out of Flipardini, by Bernardini, he is from the family of Canadian Horse of the Year Alywow and Grade/Group 3 winners Wow Me Free and Malossol.

A weanling colt from the first crop of Grade 1 winner Nashville sold to Raven Run for $160,000. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent for Prime TBs (Estate for Erv Woolsey) and Alliance Bloodstock, he is out of the winning Lemon Drop Kid mare My Kinda Devil. The colt is from the family of stakes winners Mykindasaint and Malibu Saint.

Two horses each sold for $150,000.

Mather Pass Group went to the amount for Far Flung, a 4-year-old daughter of Nyquist carrying her first foal by Maxfield. Consigned by Godolphin, she is out of the winning A.P. Indy mare So Far and from the family of champion Just F Y I and Grade 1 winners Stellar Jayne, Starrer and Star Billing.

McKinzie also is the sire of a weanling filly purchased by Universal Farms for $150,000. Claiborne Farm, agent, consigned the filly, whose dam is the winning Tiznow mare Girardi. She is from the family of Grade 1 winner and sire Gunite.

Chad Schumer/KGC led buyers, spending $318,000 for eight horses.
