Part-owner and trainer John Terranova II felt it was only as matter of time before Our Shot found his way back to the winner’s circle.
“He has been knocking on the door, and he always has a big effort here and Saratoga,” said Terranova, who owns Our Shot in partnership with Gatsas Stables and Steven Schoenfeld. “He’s just doing really well right now.”
Our Shot knocked the door down Saturday when he posted a 1¾-length victory under Luis Saez in the Woodford (G2) Presented by FanDuel. Prior to Saturday’s race, Our Shot won an allowance race here in April 2023, was runner-up to Arzak in the Woodford Presented by FanDuel last fall and was fourth behind Arzak in this spring’s Shakertown (G2).
Victory in the Woodford Presented by FanDuel marked his first win since July 2023, a span of nine races.
“He’s not Breeders’ Cup eligible, so it’s more than likely he won’t go (to Del Mar for the Prevagen Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint-G1),” Terranova said of the 5-year-old. “He is really good this morning, but the turf sprint season is about done so we’ll probably freshen him up and then start him back at Tampa.”
Arzak, who finished third in his bid for a Woodford Presented by FanDuel repeat Saturday, will head back to trainer Mike Trombetta’s main base at Fair Hill Training Center in Maryland on Tuesday. Trombetta said if everything goes well in the coming weeks, he will pre-enter Arzak at Del Mar for the Breeders’ Cup.
Arzak was sixth in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint last year at Santa Anita beaten only 2 lengths.
