2nd race [Alw 50000s, 1 mi] – (7) Enigmatic (C) was bet down from 3-1 to be the 1-1 favorite in a similar spot. She set the pace under a firm hold but faded to finish third. (3) Just Magic has four top three finishes in a row including a close second at this level last month. (8) Dazzy has been racing in Maryland-bred races in her last three starts with only second and third-place finishes. (4) Elliptic broke her maiden for a $50,000 tag and recently was third in a NY-bred allowance.

6th race [NY, Md 30000 N1X, 7F] – (5) Focus Pocus (B) lost all chance after a poor break and the blinkers go back on. (6) Going for Glory had place and show finishes in her last five races at this level. (10) Sendera has also run good races in maiden claimers and will go from turf to dirt. (2) Inflammabelle has early speed of which there is little in this field. She tried the turf to no avail and could have a pace advantage in this spot.

7th race [Md Sp Wt, 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (9) Good Conduct (A) broke slowly in her debut in a turf sprint and closed with “an eye-catching rally” to finish fifth beaten by only three lengths at 7-1. (8) Rare Art used a closing move to get third in her first start at 12-1 and the rider dropped his crop in the stretch. (1) American Justice is a daughter of Justify for a trainer that has good stats with first-time starters. (2) Rescue Me is a first-time starter of note for Chad Brown and the daughter of More Than Ready is bred for the grass.

8th race [Clm 50000 N2L, 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (1) Billy’s Got Issues (B) had a bad break and then raced 10 wide while passing horses. (2) Union Express set the pace and finished second in the same type of claiming race. (8) Dissolved returns from a May layoff to make his second turf start for Mike Maker who is currently in second in the trainers standings at Saratoga. (7) Barnstorming made a big improvement when he moved to turf. He crossed the finish line in his last race first but got dq’d and placed second.

Best bets: Enigmatic (2nd); Focus Pocus (6th). Best value: Good Conduct (7th); Billy’s Got Issues (8th).
