July 15, 2022

Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Saratoga – Day 3
By Matt Shifman and Bob Ehalt

Hot List Key:
 A:
A preferred horse to watch                                     B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worst
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

2nd race [Alw 50000s, 6F] – (4) Quick Munny ships up to Saratoga from Kentucky following an easy front-end victory in a $50,000 maiden claimer. (6) Tea Olive set the pace and finished second in his first start of the year. Last year he won his debut for Wesley Ward in a maiden special weight. (5) Cupids Girl was a clear winner when she dropped into a maiden claimer for the first time. Sometimes this type of horse will put a couple wins together after the maiden breaker. (7) Chloe Rose gets blinkers on and has been in good form at this starter allowance level.

3rd race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 1 1/6 mi TURF] – (8) Saratoga Chrome (B) was last early, had to check, and then rallied after an unruly pre-race. That was her second start after a layoff and looked better than it appears on paper. (6) Sarah’s Splendor (D) took some late money in her debut when bet from 8-1 to 6-1. (4) Robyn and Eli was third in all three of her starts including a neck loss in a NY Stallion Series race in her first start of the year for Chad Brown. (9) Arisaema was second the entire race in her second start of the year and that was certainly that best of her career.

4th race [Clm 40000 N2L, 1 1/8 mi] – (1) Red Revolution (A) got checked at the start of his most recent race and rallied for third after getting far behind. (4) Eagle in Love (C) gets the blinkers off after running second the entire race following a layoff where he was bet down from 7-1 to 5-1. (8) Cryo gets some class relief after breaking his for a $75,000 tag at Churchill Downs. (2) Higher Quality won a maiden special weight in April at Aqueduct for Chad Brown and now drops down after trying an allowance.

10th race [The Sanford (G3), 6F] – (4) Forte (A) was geared down in his debut victory by almost eight lengths for Todd Pletcher at odds of .20-1. (9) Andiamo a Firenze (A) was another impressive first-time starter at Belmont Park when he won by four lengths on a sloppy track. He is a half-brother of graded stakes winner Firenze Fire. (12) Valenzen Day (D) was a debut winner and then ran third in the Tremont at Belmont after a difficult trip. (5) Curly Jack won his first start at Churchill Downs for Tom Amoss who has shown a lot of success with 2-year-olds.

Best bets:  Quick Munny (2nd); Forte (10th). Best value:  Saratoga Chrome (3rd); Red Revolution (4th).
