Saratoga Hotlist - July 23

July 21, 2022

Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Saratoga
By Matt Shifman and Bob Ehalt

Hot List Key:
 A:
A preferred horse to watch                                 B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worst
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

4th race [Md Sp Wt, 1 TURF] – (3) Wings Like Eagles (A) broke last, got stuck in traffic, and then was blocked in mid-stretch. The running line said he got a “brutal trip”. (4) Jane Mast was third in her debut at Belmont last month and got steadied at the quarter pole. (1) Mozay hit the board in 5 out of 6 starts for Bill Mott including a narrow loss by a head last time. (5) Herington Rocket missed his maiden breaker by a neck in his first start of the year when she dropped into the claiming ranks for the first time.

7th race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 5 ½ F TURF] – (10) Mrs. Boomer (B) in his second start lost all chance when he took lots of kickback. She gets blinkers on now and breaking from the outside should be able to find a trip clear of the flying dirt. (2) Tough Street will make her first start of the year for Chad Brown after two starts in 2021 where she set the pace and finished second. (3) Treat Street was bet down to 3.35-1 in her debut for Mark Hennig and his firsters rarely win or take much action at the windows. She had a wide trip and finished fifth. (6) Quick Power Nap pressed the pace in her first start of the year and finished third.

8th race [Alw 115000 N1X, 6F] – (5) Stage Left (A) had to check and alter path which forced him to have to rally instead of her usual pace pressing style. She will drop down from a recent second level allowance into this spot. (6) Under Oath returns from an April layoff when he rallied to break his maiden at Keeneland for Todd Pletcher. (7) Highly Respected was a first out winner for Chad Brown and then was second in the Bay Shore (G3) by a nose and most recently was beaten a neck in a Belmont allowance. (4) Favorite Outlaw was second in an allowance at Churchill Downs after setting the pace for Steve Asmussen.

9th race [OC 62K/N2X, 1 1/8 mi] – (5) Air Attack (B) was slow to get in stride, ended up last early, and rallied to finish second just a nose behind but far ahead of the others. He was a voided claim after that race. 4) Gentleman Joe gets a pass for a poor performance in a stake at Delaware that was run on a sloppy track. Before that he had three excellent starts at Maryland tracks. (3) Rising Empire gets blinkers on and is projected to be the pace setter in this field. (7) Stage Raider was second his last two starts for Chad Brown.

Best bets:  Wings Like Eagles (4th); Air Attack (9th). Best value:  Mrs. Boomer (7th); Stage Left (8th).
