Saratoga Hotlist - September 6
September 4, 2020Today’s New York Hot List races to watch – Sunday, September 6, 2020 at Saratoga
By Matt Shifman and Bob Ehalt
Hot List Key:
A: A preferred horse to watch B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.
3rd race – (5) Majestic West (C) ran third in a starter allowance sprint while getting bet down from 7-1 to 9-2 and now stretches out to nine furlongs with a route victory in the past. (4) Cold Hard Cash ran second going the nine furlong distance against NY-breds just two weeks ago at Saratoga. (2) First Rate was second in an identical race at the Spa for Saffie Joseph. (3) Blood Moon has lots of early speed and was claimed just seven days ago by Linda Rice. Before the claim he did run third twice in starter allowances like this.
4th race – (7) Holy Emperor (C) lost a head bob by a nose last start for Jimmy Jerkens and now cuts back in distance from 11 furlongs to 8.5. (1) Price Talk/(1A) Conglomerate make a formidable entry for Chad Brown where both horses have a serious chance to win. (2) Dreams of Tomorrow was second in consecutive maiden special weights and now tries the turf for the first time for Shug McGaughey. (3) Complex System was claimed for $40,000 from Chad Brown by Rob Atras who now puts the blinkers on.
5th race – (5) Mo Dean (A) made a big rally to miss the win by a neck in her debut for Chad Brown. The third place finisher came back to win next time out. (8) Lutescoot N Boogie was third in her debut for Steve Asmussen after a less than ideal start. (1) Feeling Pretty was well bet for her debut in a race where the winner came back to win her next start. (2) Jane Grey will make her debut for Bill Mott. She is the first starter from an unraced mare who sold at auction as a broodmare prospect for $1.2 million.
6th race – (10) Brass Ring (C) has consistently shown speed in a series of turf sprints. She was third most recently when bet down from 7-1 to 5-1. (8) Keota will move from a victory in a starter allowance to a first-level allowance for Chad Brown. She has a dangerous stalking style for this type of race. (1) A Little Faith was the winner of a second-level allowance for NY-breds for Bruce Levine and she is still eligible for this open company allowance. (3) Bean Counter won her last two starts for Todd Pletcher including a starter allowance and a N3L claimer. She will now cut back in distance to a sprint where she was a past winner.
Best bets: Majestic West (3rd); Mo Dean (5th). Best value: Holy Emperor (4th); Brass Ring (6th).
