Smooth Like Strait, Lobo Duo Top 23 Nominations for Maker's Mark Mile

April 3, 2022

Cannon Thoroughbreds’ Smooth Like Strait and Bonne Chance Farm and Stud R D I’s Ivar (BRZ), the 2-3 finishers in last fall’s FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) Presented by PDJF, headline a roster of 23 horses nominated to the 34th running of the $600,000 Maker’s Mark Mile (G1) to be contested on Friday, April 15.

Trained by Michael McCarthy, Smooth Like Strait won the Shoemaker Mile (G1) last May and was beaten by less than a length in six other Grade 1 or 2 tests last year.

Ivar, winner of the 2020 Shadwell Turf Mile (G1) here, and In Love (BRZ), winner last fall’s Keeneland Turf Mile (G1), are both trained by Paulo Lobo. Lobo indicated both horses came out of weekend works well at The Thoroughbred Center and have a “great chance to go with both” in the Maker’s Mark Mile.

Entries for the race will be taken next Sunday.
