Statement from Keeneland on the Passing of Dr. A. Gary Lavin, VMD

February 27, 2021

Dr. A. Gary Lavin, VMD was a widely respected member of the Thoroughbred community and a pioneering veterinarian who devoted his life to the health and welfare of the horse and horsemen. His long and distinguished career touched nearly every aspect of the industry: as a breeder, owner and operator of Longfield Farm near Goshen, Ky., in veterinary medicine; and in service to numerous boards and organizations, particularly the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, which sought to improve the sport. Dr. Lavin was a beloved member of the Keeneland family, serving as a Keeneland Director and a valued member of the Keeneland sales inspection team. We at Keeneland will always remember his friendship, kindness, expertise and his willingness to share his vast knowledge with so many. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Betsy; his sons Allan and Kevin, and the entire Lavin family.
