Top 5 Editions of the Maker's Mark Mile (G1)

1. Wise Dan (2013-2014)

Morton Fink’s Wise Dan, who was based at Keeneland with trainer Charlie LoPresti, won back-to-back runnings of the race as part of a Keeneland-record seven stakes victories. A six-time Eclipse Award winner, Wise Dan was Horse of the Year in 2012 and 2013. He is on the ballot to be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year in his first year of eligibility.

 

2. Miss Temple City (2016) 

The Club Racing, Allen Rosenblum and Sagamore Farm’s Miss Temple City became the first filly to win the race when she posted a 1¼-length triumph over future race winner Heart to Heart. In October of that year, she again defeated males in Keeneland’s Shadwell Turf Mile (G1).

 

3. Kip Deville (2007-2008)  

IEAH Stables and partners’ Kip Deville became the first two-time winner of the race. Kip Deville won the Breeders’ Cup Mile in 2007 and was runner-up in the Maker’s Mark Mile the following year.

 

 

4. Perfect Soul (IRE) (2004)  

Charles Fipke’s Canadian champion Perfect Soul (IRE) stopped the timer in a stakes-record 1:33.54 in posting a half-length victory.

 

 

5. Artie Schiller (2005) 

Timber Bay Farm and Mrs. Thomas Walsh’s Artie Schiller cruised to a 2 ¼-length victory. That fall Artie Schiller won the Breeders’ Cup Mile.
