Equine Safety Report

Friday, April 19

During race 5, #2 February Son sustained an injury and was attended to by an expert team of veterinarians led by KHRC Chief Veterinarian Dr. Nick Smith in consultation with Dr. Stuart Brown, Vice President of Equine Safety at Keeneland. Given the extent of the injury, it was determined that humane euthanasia was in the best interest of the horse. Keeneland offers our heartfelt condolences to owner Captain Jack Racing Stable and trainer Anthony Granitz.

Gerardo Corrales, rider of February Son, who was involved in the incident was transported to the University of Kentucky’s Emergency Department. He was evaluated and discharged from the hospital.
